Plant of the month: Phalaenospis Phalaenopsis, otherwise known also as the Butterfly Orchid because of the flowers
resemblance with this one originates from South East Asia. Most are epiphytic
plants and like to attach themselves to trees in their natural habitat.
This type of orchid is appreciated by professional and amateurs alike owing to
the wide choice of plants available. There are more than fifty species of flower
with a variety of colors and forms ensuring the presence of flowering plants
in your garden all year round.
The Phalaenopsis is perfectly adapted to the climate on Reunion Island both at the higher and lower ground levels of the island. It requires little light during its growth period but likes bright light when flowering. It grows best in high humidity and a relatively high temperature of 15°c/59°F at night and 26°c/78.8°F during the day. It requires little care and attention.
It only needs repotting every two years in special orchid compost (sold in our
stores). A dose of orchid fertilizer should be added when watering.
